I have a 4.0 pushrod motor in my 2000 explorer. The motor makes a pinging sound and it kind of sounds like a rattling noise when the engine is cold and the noise gets better as it warms up. I have heard this happens with these motors. I have searched all over this web site for a good answer but I can't seem to find it. I really would like to find out what this noise is because it drives me crazy! If anyone can tell me something about this problem I would appreciate it.

 

I've just purchased a 2000 Explorer and it also had a ping noise in it the other evening when the engine was warm. Since I just found it was nearly out of radiator fluid (I've only had it 2 days), was hoping this was why.

Think that had anything to do with the ping?
