What year I wonder??? If you have an '88 or newer you don't need a checker to get trouble codes. You just need a little 6" jumper wire to go from the STI (self test input) to the signal return pin on the wire harness behind the air box. If you don't have a check engine light. Get a Haynes manual #36058 and look in chapter four section 14. I think you will only need a special tool if you have a '96 or newer.

You know this is the second time I have gone to this forum and left all the important information off, kinda like going to a fire and leaving the fire truck at the station.
The code checker I bought is for a string of years in which my truck is one. If that don't help then I'll tell ya it's a 1990 F-250 with a 460cui engine, Automatic trans.
