'77 Steering Column Gearshift Removal

The gearshift assembly on the steering column of my '77 F250 has broken and I'm having trouble figuring out how to disassemble and repair. I know the problem is in the gearshift collar but I don't know how to get there. I've removed the steering wheel and the plastic turn signal plate and the circlip on the column but the collar above the gearshift collar doesn't seem to want to come off. Do I need to remove the whole steering column?

Help....and thanks!

Glenn
