MAP sensor.... Do the O.E.M. numbers have to match exactly,

if I try to replace one with one from a salvage? Does it matter if they come from a 4, 6, or 8 cyl. engine? The numbers I have are only different by one letter and it doesn't run right with the salvage MAP in it. Thanks BJ

MAP sensor.... Do the O.E.M. numbers have to match exactly,

The MAP sensor and the BP sensor look alike, and have the same connection, but are not interchangeable, to my knowledge. From what I read in the service manuals, the MAP sensor sends out an ac signal like a 'tone' which varys according to manifold pressure. The BP sensor is a variable resistor which sends a voltage between 1.3 and 1.7 volts, depending on barometric pressure when the engine is started.

The MAP sensor is used on engines without mass air.

Hope this helps.
