PCM/ECM identification

Hi all, I need some help identifying a PCM that a well-meaning friend bought for me (along with some other parts) while I was recovering from back surgery. Short story is the truck, an '88 F150 4x4 4.9l M5OD, had no spark and the reasons kept changing (first no spark from coil, then no power to coil, then spark at wrong times then to no power to the coil again). I've recovered enough from the surgery to do some work to it and finally have it running again. Bypassed the ignition switch, cut out and replaced a lot of the wiring harness (crumbling insulation at several large connectors), removed OE relays, replaced with standard relays, ran dedicated (switched and fused) power and ground for the PCM, replaced coil, replaced (for the 2nd time since this problem came up) ignition module. It now runs great. I have two PCMs for this truck already, one has a dead transistor that grounds one of the two fuel injector banks (caused by damaged wiring harness from an engine fire long before I bought the truck), but is otherwise fine (engine runs on 3 cyls, top speed ~27mph). I have a PCM I bought used to replace the original, which is still good. THe individual that bought the PCM claims he doesn't remember where he bought the PCM and distributor (neither of which were the problem), though he says they are "new" and that he paid ~$200 for both... not wanting an argument I paid him for the parts. Now I'm trying to decide if I want to keep the PCM as a spare or sell it. The PCM is newer, has 2/2/96 on the barcode sticker, and does not allow the engine in my truck to run properly... runs lean, won't idle, and has a light misfire. I've tried searching the web and this forum but haven't been able to find anything to help figure out what this computer is programmed to run. The EEPROM inside does not have a sticker over the erase window, so it may have been reprogrammed at some point (I suspect it's a parts store reman). The barcode sticker has this printed on it:
04/02/96 1
EFI-MA39C E230
F4FF-12A650-JB *CP3D313S5SB0*
G NPF 6D011
If anybody can shine some light on what this computer was originally in, what the software version E230 would be written for, etc it would be a huge help. I doubt I will be keeping the truck long enough to go through two PCMs, so I'll probly end up selling this PCM if I can't find someone locally who could use it, once I know what it was from.

I know this post was a while ago ,but if your still around and have this ECM I could really use it. It is an ECA from a 1996 Ford/Volvo Penta 5.0 FI. I have been searching for this computer for a month since I purchased my boat.
Hope that answers your question ,, It is a Marine ECA

rwm has not been on site since 4-27-17.

If you hover over his screen name & left click, you get a drop down that has "view public profile". (This info is for anybody else responding to older threads, just FYI)

Clicking on that brings up a screen showing "last activity"

There is a slight chance he has notifications turned on that will send him an e-mail that someone has responded to this post & he'll reply.

Hopefully someone else can point you in a good direction for this computer, if not.

Good luck.

I'm still here, still get email alerts when someone replies. I ended up trading the PCM to someone else, he still had it last month, said he had it listed on ebay, but kept relisting it because it wasn't selling. I'll find out if he still has it and how much he wants for it.

I try to follow up when I post a question, and provide what solutions I've found (and any other little surprises encountered in the process) as much as possible in case someone else has to go through the same ordeal... I'm a firm believer in Karma. I gave him the contact info of the person who has the ECM now (he got tired of relisting it on Epay), hopefully it will be what he is looking for and can put it to use.

Hopefully if he gets it, he'll let us know how it works out.
