F-150 94 column shifter broke.

The video shows the bottom then the top of the shifter linkage in the column.

I am moving the shifter back and forth through the video.

It is stuck in Park.

Ideas???

BTW, I looked for the loose-bolt issue at the end of the shifter shaft. No loose bolts.

check for a blown fuse.
the brake release may not be working. if you drop the column you will see the brake release solenoid and lever farther down the column.

ok, than you are going to have to drop the column and inspect the shift tube.
it really is not that hard to do, i just had to replace the one in my 02 diesel last month.
4 bolts holding the column to the dash, and 6 i think T25 or T30 torx bolts.

Fixed.

I changed out the ignition lock cylinder, shifter tube, and lubed both ends of the shifter cable.

Thank you again for your help.

Here is the broken shift tube. There is a straight edge in the shot to show the bend.

Wow, yeah it's broke.

I need to replace the bushing's in my '95 Eddie Bauer. It has some half inch slop in the shifter housing. The bottom torx bolts are tight to.

How hard was it to change everything and did you have to order anything or was everything at the parts store?

I got my shift tube assembly from oreillys for $30. It was in stock.

This video was very helpful. Somethings are going to be different, but it shows the important stuff.

If you have the tools handy and some time. It is not too hard. The video really walks you through it.

If I recall correctly you will need:
7mm, 8mm, & 13mm sockets. A Torx-30 (star point) bit or socket. A small flat blade screw driver. And daylight. Did mine after dark. Would not recommend doing the same.

I used my smallish 20V impact to loosen everything, but I used a slim-line right-angle adapter and a T-30 bit. Then reinstalled the screws with my drill. The impact driver would have stripped the aluminum holes.

Let me know if you have any questions the video does not answer.

I'd still like to know how the shaft bent and the housing broke. The bushings were fine. All the screws were tight. Then again it is 22 years old and has 205K miles on it.

Thanks for replying with how you did it and where you got everything.

I really don't like the slop and I know it's the shifter tube and bushings. PO used to drop it from "D" to "2nd" slot from what I can tell.

Appreciate the help and knowledge!

Just be sure to lube your shifter cable at both ends.

I suspect that is why mine broke in the 1st place.

I popped the cable end off at the column. Lubed it at both ends. Then worked the cable in and out P-D1. With the truck off of course.

Glad to help. And thank you to those who've helped me.
