Good book for 302/289
I have two trucks and a mustang I am working on with 302 and 289 engines. I am pretty good around these vehicles. Have never done a complete rebuild. I want to build a spare engine. Nothing other than stock.
I have the shop manual. Is this good enough or do I get another?
Is the Tom Monroe How to Rebuild Small-Block Ford Engines, the best book to get?
Thanks

Interested in other member's comments/suggestions. Not familiar with either the 'shop manual', or the book mentioned, if of the 'how to' Haynes variety, not a particular fan of these manual, find them too generic.
Not that knowledgeable, nor have the tools to attempt an engine rebuild, if I were, suspect majority of the machine work would be out resourced.
Installed a 68 Mustang 289/302 in the 65 F100. Lifter in #1 cylinder seized and ended up purchasing a replacement kit consisting of Cam, Lifters, and Push rods. and purchased a used softcover manual, How to Rebuild the Small Block Ford engine, author, George Reid, can not recall whether thru Ebay or Book Finders.com and found the book very helpful. ISBN: 9781932494891 / 1932494898.

I've never seen a "one best book" I have several and all have erroneous info that doesn't seem obvious until you have read all of them and compared the info in them. George Reid's books are chock full of incorrect info pertaining to part numbers and incorrectly labeled pictures of parts. The old "Motor Repair Manuals" are about the best when it comes to this. You'll find detailed engine specs and torque specs in them that you can take the bank.

Books
The Tom Monroe book is very good.
For a scholarly treatise on the small block Ford up to 1968, there is the meticulously researched and documented "Mustang & Ford Small Block V8, 1962-1969" by Bob Mannel.
