1950 F-1 questions about my original paint

Hi guys i an new here to fte! But i am not a stranger, i have read through alot of posts and finally decided to make a profile. I will upgrade to full member soon, but for now i have a couple questions.

So i have a 1950 f1 and my paint code says my paint color should be 7,meadow green, however upon wet sanding the cowl it was meadow green, with some red? Then i jumped to my driver side door just to see what is going on. And upon sanding i found a bunch of different colors! Green grey yellow red black and blue. Please help. I really dont want to screw up the original paint but ive already messed with 2 spots. And btw the pervious owner rattle cam spray paint the entire truck a vomit green color which is why i am trying to remove the spray paint to get to the golden factory paint! Please give me some info, maybe ford used some colors as base coat? Or pehaps the primer color? Idk... ill attach a picture. Thanks! I also have the firewall stamping if needed.

Red might be a primer and doors can be replaced and may not be original to the truck. I only looked at one of your pics as they were taking a loooong time to load.

I have some spots on my 56 that have that reddish color under the paint and I think it might be a primer of some kind.

I agree. Do you see red primer exposed here on my truck:

Welcome.

The primer used on the Bonus Built trucks tended to be reddish.

Where did you find your paint code on the truck?

I would look behind the seat and by the dash kick panels to verify the original color. While you have good intentions to preserve the original paint, the previous owners didn't share your passion. Clearly, there were numerous previous repaints. Getting back to whatever Henry II used may involve time travel.

Wow that's kind of artsy! Not sure if your a "Patina Man" but might be cool if you lightly sanded the whole truck, put a clear coat on it and left it that way!

Thanks for all the replys! First off the piant code was 7, it was the firewall stamping that i decoded. But its crazy because this truck is original. Has no tags since the 60s and has not been driven since. When i pulled out the wiring it was crumbling 6v wires. The bed the steel bottom with wood underneath. Buttttt they rattle can spray painted EVERYWHERE. So the only way ill ever know is wet sanding the top coat down, or paint thinner on the while truck, im a fan of a little elbow grease but that would require way to much. So im sticking with wet sanding. I guess its a lost cause with having original paint

Welcome! The paint is probably original behind the fuel tank and on the back side of the tank.

Thanks, well gas tank is no longer in the truck so they painted that area as well. But i did pull off the window stripping and it is meadow green! But im still wondering why all the other colors, it looks like the colors from the 1950 color chart. It is the original cab and clips. But still strange, but i didnt know if theres any ford history that i should know about why they wpuld use more than just the paint code. I figured the red was a primer but not sure about the gold/yellow and other colors if you check out the photo.

One can reasonably assume that only the primer and first color coat were factory - everything else was aftermarket. The color parade may have reflected each new owner. Sort of like tree age rings.
