Correct Paint
Correct Paint
Does anyone have a link or a document on the correct paint for engine, Chassic and underhood paint (Color, flat, matte, semi, gloss, etc) for a 1948 F-1 ?
Or should I just paint as I feel what I like ? options on this !
I search for a while, but got mixed results and posts.
thanks.

It depends on just how period correct you want to be with it. For the majority, the frames were done with a black chassis paint, sometimes gloss, sometimes a semi gloss, as far as paint for the underbody, it wasn't so much painted and overspray from when the main part of the body was done. Areas under the hood and such were pretty much the same way, overspray and a couple quick coats to add the color but being back then laquer was used, there wasn't enough material to give it a real shine, more of an eggshell finish.
I know that Rustoleum has a red engine enamel, I don't know if it's what you want. But if not, go to any auto store that sells more than just spray can paint. Like a napa auto store or something like that, they can give you a book n then you can look in it to find the color and buy it.
Dupli-Color sells a ford red ceramic engine enamel. Look on Summit Racing's website. They have it on there. $6.95 a can.

Mud digger.. yeah. that Dupli-Color is too bright.. all most to the point of it looking like Chevy Orange.. the early Ford Red is a much darker Red.. There is still some on my block. I was hoping to freshen it up some.
That's too bad... The only other thing I can think of is having it custom mixed at a paint store. Look around for stores that sell stuff like dupont paint, etc. They should be able to mix it for you.
