Question of the Week: Would you consider the new diesel F150?

The 2018 Ford F150 will feature an all-new 3.0L PowerStroke V6 diesel and if it is similar to the engine that Ford builds for Land Rover, it could have somewhere in the area of 254hp and 443lb-ft of torque while being the most fuel efficient truck on the market.

If the new diesel F150 has specs in that range, would you consider it over the other engines in the 2018 F150?

No. Why is ford doing this after the commercial failure of the competitor's half ton diesels?

Colorado diesel = failure
Ram ecodiesel = failure
Nissan XD Cummins = failure

So yeah okay they managed to sell a few but they cost as much and get not much better mpgs than the big boys.
The whole.mini diesel thing sounds like a great idea but I would venture that the competitors have lost a ton of money.

I am curious as to why you say those other models are failures?

From my last reads and understanding...both the Colorado and Nissan are due out this year...

The ram started 2 years ago in limited numbers....to which you couldn't get one because of the demand.

That's cool with me I wish them well. I've been wrong about a whole lot of stuff before.

I will say it always takes a year or two to work bugs out....which is why I don't usually buy a first year release of anything..

I wouldn't mind a small truck with a little Isuzu diesel or an old diesel rabbit.

I fully agree...especially considering I put 40,000 miles on vehicles a year...

I'd do a diesel F150, but they won't be out in time for me...I'm getting close to time for my purchase.

I was going to do the Ram Ecodiesel, but then the EPA messed everything up. I love the idea of a full-sized truck that gets great mileage.

That's my 2 cents.

I would take one for a commuter, but it would not replace my 6.0L.

I use my diesel 2003 VW Beetle manual 5 speed for commuting. I use the EX for hauling and towing and traveling. No use for a F150 diesel truck at this point. I wouldn't want to pay what they will be asking for a new car anyway.

I don't know if it could replace my 6oh either. But the only reason I am attracted to the Nissan XD w/ a Cummins is because they can bumper pull pretty close to what my current 6oh can.

One of the MANY reasons I bought my 6oh was because I plan on eventually purchasing a trailer that will weigh between 10-11K.

That is another reason I bought my 6oh, I put on 25-30K per year on my truck.

So as long as it would fit in the 5/8 ton like the Titan, then I would be for a F-150 diesel.

What will the price premium be? Maybe get a lot of gas for the difference, and pay less for maintenance as well

I think ford should use some of their foreign market diesel trucks in the domestic market. A buddy of mine was in Mexico recently and told me that they had new diesel rangers at the dealership. Why not just sell those here? They already are being produced and have support.

E.P.A.

Looked for a small diesel pickup a few years ago. There are none for sale in the US.
