Changing my C6 transmission radiator into a bigger one

Hi guys, that's me again ;-) I have in my IDI Motorhome IMHO a very small radiator for my C6 transmission and want upgrade it with a bigger one. Do you know a big radiator i could replace plug and play? A rockstar-part would be cool, because i had no problems with shipping to Germany.
Below a picture of my transmission radiator

I used one out of a 6.0L and added a thermostat block to prevent over cooling in cold winter. Here is my thread with picks. I had to special order 1/2" trans cooler hose since it wasn't available locally. I ordered the cooler from RockAuto.

Thank you Jayro! Do you have a rockauto-partnumber of your radiator? You have no problems with hight temperature of your engine, because the radiator covers a big part of your engine coolant radiator?

I will have to look up the part number. The cooler is a stock one from a Ford 6.0L diesel.

I haven't had any engine cooling issues since installing it, but i also haven't worked the van extremely hard. I have probably had about 5000lbs on a trailer behind it but we dont have any big hills around here. I installed it because we were planning on gettint a travel trailer, it just hasnt happened yet.

Do you know if your transmission is getting hot? I would install a guage before i changed the cooler to make sure its needed. Plus having a trans gauge is a good idea anyway. It looks like yours is a stacked plate cooler, not a fin and tube so it may be working good for your application. The person that had my van before me installed a cooler like yours. Prior to installing it he said he had the trans boil over when towing his 7000lb travel trailer in hilly terrain. After he installed the cooler he never had an issue, although he didnt have a gauge so he didnt know the actual temps.

First thing i would suggest would be to install a coolant temp, trans temp and EGT gauge. Then do a coolant flush and change the transmission fluid. That way you have a good eye on whats going on.

You are right Jayro, my plan is to install a gauge for trans temp, so i can observe what is going on. Maybe a bigger radiator is not necessary if my stacked plate cooler is working efficiently. You mean my cooler is better than standard? It would be cool :-) I have no possibility to compare

Here is a link to the ones on RockAuto. You want the ones that say "Direct Fit"
2004 FORD F-250 SUPER DUTY 6.0L V8 DIESEL Turbocharged Oil Cooler | RockAuto

For it to fit I believe I had to trim the back of the plastic grill some as well as 2 metal tabs on the sheet metal piece behind the bumper. I also had to notch one of the cooler mounting brackets to clear the AC lines. I used some adhesive weather stripping on that area of the bracket for some added protection of the AC lines just incase.

Here are the gauges I installed.

Here is the port I used for the temp gauge on my c6. It is circled in red. The yellow is the band adjustment. There is also a port near the vacuum regulator at the back of the trans that can be used.

It is definitly an aftermarket aux cooler. Fluid should run from the trans through the radiator cooler and then through the posted auxiliary cooler. The stacked plate works much more efficiently than the tube/fin design.

If I remember correctly, yes. You will want to try and get one with a shallow sender since the hole isn't especially deep. I would check the hole depth with a screw driver prior to installing the sender.
