First, When a car or truck with an automatic transmission is is NOT equipped with an auxiliary transmission cooler and only cooled by the radiator does the transmission run at engine operating temperature.. 180-210* ?
The answer seems obvious
Second, noticing many smaller SUVs towing little trailers like r-pods etc, though the trailers don't weigh much , are the little SUVs, Subaru etc equipped with extra cooling do you think?
The transmission cooler in the radiator is in the cool side of the radiator. This is after the coolant has passed through the radiator, so the coolant temperature will be cooler than the engine temperature at this point. At light loads this can be about 50F cooler than engine temperature. When the engine is working at maximum output for a long time this can drop to 15-20F cooler than engine temperature.
Some smaller vehicle have extra cooling, some do not. There is no one answer to that question.
Thanks, makes sense. I would imagine the little Jeeps I see towing 3+4k lbs have auxiliary cooling. It must be a bit of a grunt to get over some of these passes here in cColorad.
