Tire Pressures

OK, first one ton truck owner.

Why are my rear tires at 80 psi? and do I have to keep them that high when empty?
I think the ride will improve with like 55 psi, but I dont want to kill the tires either. Any suggestions?

I run mine at 55 front abd rear and it is a great improvement. 80 is ridiculous unless you're towing the whole time. Also sandbags in the back help a lot.

The door sticker, which on an F-350 is typically 65psi front and 80psi rear, is what the manufacturer recommends. You will get the longest tire life, best fuel economy, and highest payload capability at these pressures.

That said, you will also get the worst ride quality unladen. Plenty of members here have run lower tire pressures without issue.

F-250 trucks run less pressure because they have less payload capacity...but they may well be running the exact same tire as the 350 truck. This proves CYA's point, but it also indicates you can safely run higher pressures in a 250 for better fuel economy if you so desire.

My 2017 dually sticker states 75psi front and 65 rear.

Thanks. My truck is 2 weeks old and the heaviest thing I hauled was Christmas Presents so far.
I have to admit that even at those pressures the ride isn't HORRIBLE, just feel it could be better - so does the Mrs.

PS - I am a Big fan of Orange as well.

On my 2015 I had the dealer lower the tpms warning down to 50 psi so I could adjust according to my load.
