Hi all,
I have Hercules Terra Trac A/T 265/75/R16s. I know that if you air them up to 85 psi when running around unloaded, they wear only int he middle. But obviously, the harder they are, the more efficient. I want efficiency, but I don't want to wear my tires out too soon. What is a good psi?
Thanks
I run the same size Michelins (sp?) and run 78 psig in them and the middle two rows do not wear at the same rate as the outer rows. I always have more tread in the middle when I replace the tires. The 78 psig is basically the max. shown on the sidewalls. I always thought the higher pressures forced the middle to balloon out and wear more.
I need to listen to this one! I only run 60psi front and rear., should I be running what the tire says or the sticker on the door? Fuel wise, ride, tire wear? Haul heavy load every now and than!
I have 8 ply 285/70/17's on my truck and i run them at 50 psi currently. Im empty most of the time, and even with 50 psi in all 4 tires, it rides a little rough.
Regarding the door sticker, thats mainly for factory tires. Ford has no way of telling what tires your run on your truck after the onces from the factory wear out. You should always put the pressure that your tire manufacturer reccomends. On the tire they only tell the max tire pressures, and the max tire pressures should only be used while towing or hauling heavy.
You could always do the chalk test, or call up a few tire shops if you want second opinions
my e-rated say (MAXpsi-80), so i put 70 in front and back. i always hate to do anything to MAX. feel as if its like the "boiling point" of something. and i like to keep them firmer hoping its getting me optimum mpg.
