Yeah, but the truck's a 4WD. So he's pretty much stuck with a ZF5.

He can use a nice hot rod trans like that if he gets a divorce-mount transfer case. That's a lot more effort, but it's the about the only way to put a car trans in a 4WD.

The big question is what fuel management system is he going to use? I haven't used tweecer or quarterhorse so I haven't the slightest clue whether or not a truck EEC can be modified to handle this or if he has to go to a mustang setup. If he stays truck EEC, can you change the speed limiter? Because in third gear (even in a ZF) he'd be running 99 mph at 5600 with a 3.55 gear, so 4th and 5th aren't usable for a flat out run.

He's probably just going to throw a big carb on it and call it a day.

Never mind. I didn't see that he added that bit of info at the end of his post.

450whp out of 351 inches isn't unheard of, but not easy. especially through a 4wd drivetrain. i'd guess you're going to lose 30% or so. so now we're looking at 600 crank for you to see 450 at the tire. and i have a sneaking suspicion you aren't that handy with motors or you'd have better answers. so let's put in your ingredients of "cam AL heads and big *** headers" ..... i'm saying you'll be making 350whp at most in which case that zf5 will be perfectly fine. who is making the headers for you? i haven't seen any with even a 1 3/4 primary for sale in this chassis.

Might want to upgrade the brakes while you're at it.

Zf5 is your cheapest bet, a 4x4 6 spd car trans would be your best bet as far as gearing is concerned. A cheaper "in between" would be a used nv5600
