I really need peoples opinions to make a correct choice here. I bought a 1985 F150 with a 351W, four-speed, and 4X4. What I really want is for my truck to run mid to high 14's and occasionally take it to the river and let it rip. However, just yesterday I raced my buddy in his stock 95 sentra gxe and got handed and i mean bad . I find it very sad that his sentra beat my 351W and wanted to know what kind of money and work was needed to have me a respectable 351 or if I'm better off selling it and buying something else. Please help, any and all suggestions more than welcome.
Well you gotta keep in mind that the truck is considerably heavier than most any car. I just recently got into trucks myself and I'm sure others here may disagree but i'd rather mod a 2wd to race than a 4wd. Unless of course you wanna race in the mud.
Tell your buddy to bring his sentra to a mudsling competition see which one of you comes out on top
That's about the way it comes down, it is way better to build a 2wd if you want torace it, as you are hauling around a lot of extra weight for trying to race. On this occasion, you have to decide if you want acceleration or off road capability. I would love to see the Sentra try to make it where the 4x goes through.
IF you want to race a truck and be competitive get a 1/2 shortbox 2x4(flareside looks the best) the weigh around 3600-3700lbs and with 350hp (like my flareside has-pics of it in gallery) drop it, get traction bars 3.73's and a full on locker. You should run high 13's and beat most anything on the road.
