4 Wheel Drive Question

Hello, have another question about my 2006 F-150 STX v8 4.6L, it has 4wd but I am not sure if its part time or full time, when I place the shifter in 4hi the light comes on and says 4x4. I see other people say If its part time a light will come on saying part time is this true ? So is this truck full or part ? thanks

Part time.

You have either a turn dial or a floor shifter that is actually doing two things at the same time. 1.) It enguages the transfer case gears. 2.) It "removes" engine vacuum from the IWE's on the front hubs to enguage the axle shafts.

Full time is AWD (all wheel drive) found only in Harley Davidson, Limited, and Lincoln versions of this truck...Different transfer case, no IWE's.

when a truck has "FULL TIME", normally it is running in 2 wheel drive and the computer is monitoring the wheel speed. When the front tires are turning slower than the rear ( rear slip), the computer engages the front drive shaft and the front tires start pulling.... like the Explorer or some cars... NOT the F150.

Part time has 2H-4H-4LO. full time is like AWD. which means you dont want the part time in 4wd on dry pavement. only use part time when you have slippage.
