My 66' F100 single barrel carb, need help to i.d

Hi All,

I am trying to repair/replace/rebuild the many items my truck is in need of. I installed a new throttle cable (15 min) works great thanks unibody62. Now I want to see what I can do with my carb. The engine seems to run well, but the gaskets on the carb seem to be in need of replacement. I am a novice and want to know 1st what type of carb do I have Carter YF, Autolite Model 1101A-1 or maybe some other manufacturer. Also, I'd like to get advice as to how to approach this. Should I attempt to rebuild, or should I send out. I incerted pictures from each angle. Thanks for all the help.

Rebuilding a carb isn't too bad, the important thing about sending out (or replacing) a carb is to avoid getting a "frankencarb" in return. Mismatched parts is common. Anything that bolts on will run but maybe not correctly. Go to Mikes Carburetors webpage and dive around in there for docs and info, parts etc. Most carbs will have a LIST # on the airhorn or wherever that has the ID and date code. Get a kit and maybe a new float (rebuild kits don't have these) plus a bucket of carb cleaner and DIY. Then you'll know it's done right, there's probably a YT video walking you through it, setup and adjustment and the rest of it. You'll learn a lot too. Heck, take some pictures of your rebuild and post them here. Welcome to FTE btw.

Also consider that carb kits are relatively inexpensive, $15-$20. I would remove the carb. Remove any gas in it and take it down to a GOOD parts store to get a kit and any other parts needed. A lot of the chain stores have limited reference materials and experience with the old stuff.

Thanks Tedster9, I picked up an old chilton, and was able to find out what make and model (autolite 1101A) and I give it a try like you suggested. I just saw a video of Mikes Carborators (funny you mentioned him) and will go to the website to see if I can find the video on my carborator. But thanks for great info. Much appreciated.

Thanks John, really good suggestion, Will I have better luck purchasing rebuild kikt from the JC Whitney's, LCM of the world? Or just keep trying to find a local auto parts store that has knowledgable counter man? Again, can't thank you enough for your suggestions. Being a novice, I want to try as much as I can on my own without paying a mechanic to work on my truck. And getting great info from people like yourself helps a lot.

Everybody sez use Motorcraft rebuild kits, or at least a good quality kit. The $1.40 saved buying an el-cheapo kit isn't worth it. Mike probably (and the other dedicated carb sites) doesn't sell junk. It helps to have a source of shop air to blow out the carb passages. Everything needs to be cleaned out well. If you coat the gaskets with chapstick the carb will come apart again without sticking and can be reused several times. A vacuum gauge is useful for carb tuning as well as general engine diagnostics and tuning.

You sure this is an Auto-Lite carb?

1965/68 F100/350 240/300's had the fuel filter inside a can that threads onto the fuel pump.

This fuel filter threads into a boss on the carb that the Auto-Lite didn't have, so it might be a Carter YF type.

The Ford carb ID tag is missing, but if you look at the base of the carb, the ID number may be stamped there.
