Adding Cab lights

Anybody ever add cab clearance lights to a truck that didn't have them? Any tips or suggestions on where to buy? My stepson is looking to add some to his 06 crew cab and I don't know about what wiring is in the truck now and there is a butt load of aftermarket options. Standard incandescent bulbs would be ok, just need them to fit right and not leak etc.

There was a good thread on this a while back. He can get a harness from Ford, or a couple of after market places. They should be plug and play in the side kick panel on passenger side.

Recon is one place to get them from.

Check this write-up.

I would go on ebay and find a set of OEM Ford lights. its pretty easy to find a take off set with all 5 bases, covers and wiring harness. I would not trust any aftermarket light (especially recon) to not leak, or burn out quickly. As for install/wire plug in location, there is a writeup on here somewhere, ill have to look

OEM Take offs have just as good of a chance to leak due to the density foam gasket. Actually per Ford the lights are a one time mount use due to the gasket. If one is removed it gets replaced with a new one. Found this out when my Dad's truck roof had work done and to his surprise Ford replaced them all because it was reskinned. OUCH.

If using used ones I'd use a mild sealant. It is quite common from age for them to leak and reek havoc because most people never know. the water will come down the A-pillars and run into the dash and harness. Sometimes wind shields are blamed but it ends up being leaky cab lights.

I did on my Excursion.

The measurements: Center / 8 1/4" for the three middle and center/ 20 1/2" for the outer. All. 3 1/2" from the edge of the windshield trim.

The stock light is just a simple Truck Lite brand light, if he is looking for a stock appearance this is it, I bought mine at my local Peterbilt dealer cheaper than I could find anywhere else, JMO.

25 Series, Mini Aerodynamic, Incandescent, Yellow Triangular, 1 Bulb, Marker Clearance Light, PC, 2 Stud Mount, AMP 174928-1, 12V | Truck-Lite

FYI.

I would look for a reputable aftermarket set of leds, im sure someone knows a good brand on here, then take every possible step to avoid leaks. grommet the hole if possible, use silicone around the hole inside and out, IMO its better to be safe than wet. As far as measurements its personal preference if you want then evenly spaced or set like they are from the factory

I have installed cab lights before and never had an issue with leaks, but I would never do it again, I was very worried about them being perfect way to stressful for me LOL

I used the recon lights and the only issue I had was the LEDs burned out they sent me out new ones right away and all was well.

Id rather pay someone to do it again, but if you do end up doing it, post up some pics my buddy just bought a truck that doesn't have them and he wants to add them

I think the smoked ones look stupid. eBay has a ton of led options that I'd have no problem with, and have considered it.
