Door Weatherstrip Retainer Mounting

Lower door weatherstrip retainer mounting instructions from Midfifty.
I am having a senior moment but I can't recall whether this mounting is correct or whether the strip is mounted to the vertical portion of the door (scallop edge points up instead of down). I don't have an OEM door handy to compare...does this look correct to you?

Charlie, that drawing looks correct. I am not sure where else you would mount it. The scallops do poi t down, then they are crimped to hold the rubber.

The other orientation would clamp the rubber from the lower edge vs the upper. Here is a pic...I opted to install the strip as depicted in the drawing above. The bare steel piece in the pic shows the orientation, of course it would be mounted on the vertical edge of the door rather than the horizontal.

I have done a little research and found a 3M adhesive remover that works as advertised...3M 08984 or 3M 38984 (VOC compliant version). I had some places where the adhesive got onto the painted surface and needed to be removed without damaging the fresh paint. I am very pleased with how the 8984 product melted the adhesive and left the fresh paint undamaged...good stuff.

This is good to know Charlie, I'll be putting weather stripping around my doors in the near future and for the retainer that is the way I mounted mine on the doors and is the way it is on an original door I have here..

Charlie did you rivet that on after paint?

Is this the correct location?

That is the correct location/orientation. The strip can be pop-riveted or bonded in place using 3M08115.
