It's obvious Ford rushed this oil to the market by skipping the API approval. If they don't get the API approval, Ford is literally preventing other diesel owners (cummins, duramax, etc) from using their oil.

Check out post 67 - I bought that at a local Ford Dealer 2 weeks ago - it has the API circle - no CK-4 - CJ-4 only but the circle is there

It may never carry the API logo again and I'm ok with that. I doubt Ford will reduce the phosphorus to the CK-4 spec. I really doubt many other brand owners would run Motorcraft oil.

That is the old bottle Chuck. I've got one of those behind the seat. I was curious as to what the oil i got would look like. As far as I'm concerned, it meets the Ford spec, has the same part number referenced in the owners manual, I'm ok running it.

That's odd, I went to that dealer 3 weeks ago and they had nothing, waited a week and that's what they gave me. Previously I used another brand of oil, that oil is not on the WSS-M2C171-F1 sheet so I contacted the company. They sent me the letter from Ford that states "For a short period of time an oil showing CJ-4 in the API donut, without showing CK-4, would be acceptable for service even if not showing WSS-M2C171-F1. This oil would most likely be an older CJ-4 formulation, developed and licensed prior to 2016." So what you said makes sense, possibly this batch of Motorcraft was stacked on a pallet in the corner of a warehouse someplace. Attached is that letter.
