The website lists CK-4 oils approved by Ford. Check out the pics of the bottle. There is no API logo or CJ-4 or CK-4 spec listed. It's not a CK-4 oil, and that's why it's not on the CK-4 approved list.

It is NOT cheap even at the wholesale price i get. Just checked the receipt, 36.50 per 5 quarts. Retail is 45 and change. But I change my oil twice a year, so it's not really an issue.

Your discounted price isn't that bad. The Valvoline PBE is around $20 for a gallon. So figure $25 for 5 quarts.

Right. CK4 oils that meet that spec. Not CJ4 which is what motorcraft 5w40 is.

Got my first CK-4 Friday. I bought Valvoline PBX and went to the Ford Quick Lane in Richmond, VA for oil and fuel filters. They refused to use my oil even though I am towing and they had no 5W-40 as specified by Ford. Had them do the fuel filters and went across the street to Meineke while they did the change at full price despite me providing oil and filter, but worth it for the convenience as I am on the road and the truck had been slapping me in the face about changing the oil for 300 miles.
Made a 275 mile round trip to NC Saturday to visit relatives and noticed no difference.

From what I have read, the use of CK rated Oil can cause Accelerated Valve Train Wear in the Ford 6.7. The problems may not show up for many miles. I only use Motorcraft 10-30 Dino in my Truck and change at 5K. I'll bet a lot of used 6.7 trucks sold in the future will come down with premature valve related issues if run on unapproved CK.

UNLESS it is on Ford's approved list. Valvoline PBX was the first national brand 5W-40 to be approved by Ford. I would not use any CK-4 not on the list.

For anyone still under warranty or with an extended warranty, IMHO you're playing with lava if you're sticking oil that has CK-4 in the UPC circle and is not on the Ford list in your truck. You have an oil leak or other failure that can be remotely attributed to inadequate oil protection running an oil not on the list and you're in for a battle. Heck, there are posts on this site where folks have taken their trucks to Ford for service / oil changes battling them to cover an oil leak - and you're gonna run an oil not on the list? Not this boy. I'm loyal to the products I use, until they come between my bank account and their use.

What was their reasoning for not using your PBX oil? Because it was not Motorcraft oil?

That's nuts Ski. Sounds like Ford dealers and factory are not all on the same page...did you go to Meineke for the oil change or have them use Motorcraft 15w40 ?

Surprisingly there are some Ford dealers that don't use Motorcraft motor oil. As a matter of fact when I had my transmission oil change the Ford dealer used Valvoline that was supposed to be a Motorcraft LV equivalent. The only time a tech questions the oil type that I know of is when it is sludged up and its obvious the maintenance wasn't done at the correct interval.
