Fuel Pump question
#16
Thanks for the tips guys! I'll continue my search, but just for starting out, the 044 will be all I really need. even if it's a 500hr pump running diesel, that's more than enough time to get a diesel rated pump, or splurge for a new SD pump.
A sump is not necessarily a bad idea, it was on my list of things to do when I got the 38Gal tank to replace the 2 tanks.
Just need to get the list of parts on ordered, probably next Monday, it's going to be a busy weekend with putting the turbo back all the way, and a few other parts and trying to get her running first.

I would not recommend mounting one higher then the fuel tank, the pump isn't meant to suck much or run dry. Running them dry kills them the fastest as well as running them with no fuel flow which cools the windings/motor. They can take a bunch of sediment but rust attaches to the magnets killing them fast too.

I have a stock SD pump, mounted on the frame rail that came out of a junk yard truck. It's been on my truck for 3yrs or so. I promise it has more than 500 hrs on it. And NO in tank modifications were made. Oh and that stock SD pump holds pressure and pushes stage 2's just fine. Now with my new setup, I will be going to the walbro pump.

When we do e-fuel on an OBS, we are mounting the same pump in basically the same place as Ford did on the Super Duty trucks, which is on the frame rail. They will "suck" just fine. As a matter of fact, when you cut the supply line from the selector valve to plumb in the filters and pump for the e-fuel, it creates a siphon and will drain the tank if you clamp it off, so the pump doesn't actually have to "suck" that much. Have you ever done an e-fuel system?
Yes I have one on my tractor and have converted some others to efuel
These pumps just don't like to lift fuel, tank and pump in same plane should be fine but some one has posted to put it in the engine bay before and that might not work out so well.

They don't have a problem lifting fuel. Even with the tank and pump in the same plane, the pump has to lift fuel up the pickup tube in the tank. There's absolutely nothing wrong with running an inline fuel pump.
