Radio screen black in a 2011

Just picked up a 2011 F350 6.2. (Couldn't take another day with my 6.0 which I'm now selling) New one has a few minor snags that I want to clean up.
First one is the radio screen is black. Blank. Nothing there, although the radio does work. Seller had it tuned to a station. It has steering wheel controls. Here's the radio. Any idea if this can be repaired? Anyone taken one of these apart?

Not really sure if this will help..., have you tried resetting the radio by pulling the fuse out and letting it sit overnight?

Unfortunately, you can't do a Master Reset of the Sync System because you can't see the screen. However these folks may be able to help you.

Hey Enduroman,

If the fuse pull that RightWingNutJob suggested doesn't work, try a key cycle. To do so, after the engine has been running, turn off the vehicle and remove the key. Open the driver side door for 30 seconds, then close the door and restart the truck. If you still continue to get a black screen, you'll need to take the truck to the dealer for a more hands on approach.

Thanks for the replies. I'll try the fuse idea although I believe the previous owner tried it already. Thanks for the fuse diagram.

Thanks Cara. Aaah, what? You don't work for my local dealer do you?

I used to swap out CD players in cars years ago when I was a teenager. Are these that much different - if I was able to source the same one from a wrecker? I was hoping the radio display itself might be repairable or replaceable? Rebootable?

Get an after market radio much better sound then stock. Check out crutchfield they have decent deals with everything needed to keep your steering wheel controls.

Radio display blank - 2011

I'd like to try getting mine working if I can. If not, I'll look for another stock radio. Just personal preference.

Easy fix if you know how to solder

Finally getting back to this.
That thread was very helpful in determining that the screen itself is buggered on the radio in my 2011 F350. Might have been a solder issue initially, but it looks like the screen took a whack as it has a small crack in it at the top. I bought the truck this way. Anyone know where I might track down another SCREEN, or perhaps another whole FACEPLATE? Apparently the radios are VIN matched and a pain to replace. Mine's the one with Sync. Thanks.

The radio you have is not VIN matched. The NAV radios are possibly VIN matched. You can get another radio off eBay. I sold mine from my 2011 for less than $50 a few years ago. Sync is a separate module mounted in the passenger A pillar area.

The plastic cover is cracked probably because the previous owner found out like I did that when the screen fades out and goes black, a few good solid taps with your hand just above the screen brings it back to life. My 2011 has had the problem since I got it, the tapping no longer works but since I use my aux input more than radio these days Ive never tried to fix it.

I agree with Larry. Just get a new one. E-Bay is the place to go...or a local junk yard. Especially if you want to keep any of the functionality of Sync.

Can anyone else confirm that these radios are not VIN matched? Was told that they are and it sounded convincing. I hate to order one of these off eBay to find out it is no good to me.
Btw is it ever easy to remove these radios!! For anyone else reading this don't whatever you do pay someone to remove your radio for you. With a flat screwdriver and a 7 mm socket you can pull your radio while stopped at a red light.
