Headlight Problem 96 F150

I have a problem with my headlights. When I turn off the motor the lights stay on. I have to unplug them from the bulb so as not to kill battery. Also notice that the motor will not turn over sometimes when the key is turned to start position . Usually after several tries it will start. Any info will be appreciated.
Thanks
Ron ( Nova Scotia )

It's probably the headlamp switch itself causing your problem. Do you have the same DRL system that the rest of Canada has?

Yes, my truck has the same DRl system.

I assume that you are talking about the dash mounted pull out switch.
Is there a fuse for the headlights? It would make it easier for driving over the holidays until I get it fixed at dealership.

Also I thought there may be a link between the "key" problem and the "headlight" problem.
Thanks RON

Ron , Does your truck have an auto or manual transmission ? Because of where the DRL is mounted they see a lot of failures . When you turn the key to run do you have power , do the warning lights etc come on then ?

I have an automatic, extended cab. All the other lights, dash indicators are OK. Also just before this problem I had my brake light come on. Checked everything and brakes were fine. The brake light would go out when I put my high beam on when driving. After a week or two the brake light problem went away and was replaced by headlight staying on.

Thanks Ron

Is it only your headlights that are on or the rest of the lamps aswell?

If they all are on, it's not a DRL problem. DRL systems are headlamps only.

Just my headlights are on. Everything else is working fine. The key not engaging the engine has been with me for a while. They are probabally two separate problems.

Thanks Ron
