95 e40d speed sensor

Have installed a 1995 7.3 & e40d in a 1991 f450 chassis w/1955 cab speedometer works fine off gps. Question is do I need to hook up sensor wires for transmission to shift orig.worked off rear axle pick up now non existent there is a pluged hole in transmission but tail shaft has no pickup or keyway to install one.Any suggestions?

Shifting occurs through vehicle speed and throttle pedal position for that transmission to operate properly. It also uses those inputs for converter lock-up schedules and line pressure changes.

You'll need to create a way to have a square wave with 8000 pulses per mile to get it to operate correctly. I've seen a square tooth wheel installed on a driveshaft yoke. There was a VSS mounted on a bracket next to it. It worked fine.
