2005-2007 DRL relay and resistor location

I am trying to find the location of the factory DRL relay module and resistor connector locations on my 2005 F-350 so that I can enable them. I tow a horse trailer with my wife's expensive show horses and know I am probably foolish to think that having DRLs will cut down on the number of cars that will pull out in front of me but if it does by 1% I figure I will be ahead...

I've done quite a bit of research but have found very little in regards to the 2005-2007 trucks. I am assuming that the simple addition of the correct relay plugged into the module and the resistor plugged into the connector will allow me to enable the DRLs without going the other established route and splicing wires in the cab and installing the Ford DRL "box" there.

Attached is a pic of what I am certain is the relay module and it matches the Ford description of the wire color to look for if wanting to disable the function (Light Green with Red stripe). It is sitting on the right side of the engine bay on top of the fender behind the battery on that side. The loop in the pic is pointing towards the front of the truck.

But, I can't find anything that resembles the resistor (at least from what I've seen from a number of images for earlier model trucks).

Any help pointing me in the right direction as far as validating my assumption that the relay/resistor combination will enable the DRLs on my truck and where to look for the resister is appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Rex

Do any of these links help you? I found them by yahoo search of the internet....

Activating daytime running lights on 2006 F250? - Ford Powerstroke Diesel Forum

You can reverse the disable in the Ford Truck BBS

Maybe these will help you....maybe not.....if not...try google to search the internet...

Why don't you just turn your headlights on?

mchan68 had a post about DRLs on the 05-07 trucks. I'll see if I can dig it up

Long story short, you can't just add the relays and resistor module for the 05-07 trucks.

Thanks for those Just-Strokin. I had seen those before as well. I've pretty much exhausted all research on this with Google. The mystery I had been chasing was from that fleet.ford disable write-up "On 2005 to 2007 F250-550 trucks, the DRL's can be disabled by placing the common side of the switch of a 12 Volt Isolation Relay to circuit 162 (Light Green with Red stripe)".
Since I found the loop-back relay connector module similar to what was described for the 2004 and back, and the wire color matched, I thought that maybe, just maybe, if I found the resistor connection I could make this work with all the factory components in place like the older super dutys.

I don't like the dimmed instrument lights and I am also slowly burning out 20+ bulbs (4-horse gooseneck all lit up) as opposed to the 2 low-beams.

Thanks MisterCMK. That is the conclusion I am coming to as well. As noted above, just wanted to make sure I looked everywhere and in total, the group on FTE is considered more knowledgeable and willing to share that expertise than any other group out there which is why I tossed this plea for help together in the first place.

Thanks all.

m-chan68, being a Ford technician in Canada you probably have to deal with retrofitting these in US trucks more often than most techs.

Do you have a preference for the splice-in DRL module to use? The F6SZ-13B218-AA is discontinued from Ford but can still be found on eBay. I've also seen the Truck-Lite DRL kit, a similar Grote kit, and a Hamsar Kit.

Any recommendations on those or any others you've used?

thanks,
Rex

Actually no. On vehicles where the DRL function can be enabled using our scan tool is the extent of my involvement. If such a vehicle requires actual hardware installation, we farm it out to an accessory shop to deal with stuff like that (aftermarket park aid sensors, add-on heated seats, backup cameras etc.).

I just Googled that Ford part number and I must say that looks like a good kit. I honestly have never seen that particular kit, and I've been with Ford since 2000. I wouldn't have any problem using it at all, since it is an existing Ford accessory.

For future reference for somebody with the 2005-2007 super dutys that want to activate DRL's on their trucks. Based on what was mentioned above, there is no easy plug-and-play method to activate DRLs on these trucks.

What I ended up using was a Truck-lite #97300 "Standard Daytime Running Light" Module. I found one for approximately $35. It does run the low-beams at 100% intensity which I felt was a plus. It was a fairly small module and I just zip-tied it to the metal bar that runs under the in-cab power-distribution fuse box.

It is a 3-wire install:
I spliced the DRL-module yellow wire into the incoming low-beam circuit from the light switch to the back of the in-cab fuse box. It is a red w/black tracer wire (#4) going into the C270G connector.
The DRL-module blue wire is spliced to the parking lights circuit at the back of the in-cab fuse box C270B (#5) brown wire. This is what de-activates it when the regular lights are switched on (auto or manually).
Both of the above wires/connectors can be accessed relatively easily by unbolting the box inside the cab and gently pulling it out as far is it will go.
I hooked the DRL-module pink wire (12v +power) to my Upfitter #1 switch which is good for 30 amps, more than enough to run both low-beam circuits (this generation of trucks low-beams are on 2 10amp separate circuits outbound from the in-cab fuse box to the headlights).

Having them wired up to the Upfitter switch allows me to turn them off (occasionally I find myself idling for extended periods in areas I would rather not have any lights on, and no I am not a stalker).

Overall I am happy with this particular setup and am hopeful that I now am more noticeable a bit more to the average driver (idiot and otherwise) out there... who knows though...
