I have a 2016 f150 xlt ecoboost it has electronic lock on tailgate and remote start but no remote Tailgate open. Also on the xlt the handle is chrome but housing is black plastic. I want to change mine to the lariat color match housing and add remote tailgate drop is this something that only can be done through dealership i haven't seen any other options.

 

I know you can get the "soft drop" tailgate damper as an add-on. Not sure about the remote. I assume that the truck needs to be wired for the remote, but I do not know if all trucks get that wiring or not. I could argue either way.

 

I'm guessing the xlts aren't wired for the remote drop. The remote drop has an entirely different handle with a button rather than a physical mechanical handle to unlock it and is linked in with the proximity fob (IE unlocks for you if the key is in your pocket) I would think with the volume of xlts they sell, a separate wiring harness without the extra wires is the way ford went.
Personally I find the remote tail gate to be one of the more useless gimmicky features my truck has. But I also thought the remote hatch on my jeep was equally useless and I know people like those.

 

Yeah after doing more reading about the remote part i think ill do without that i read a forum where a guy accidentally pressed the button and it dropped the tailgate on his garage door he didnt know it was down and opened his garage door you know what happend next. With 2 toddlers in the house thats just asking for trouble. Especially my 3 year old that likes to make the horn honk when im not watching. I do want the color match handle housing i think ill just call dealership see what they can do. Thanks yall.
