I don't know. The reason I'm asking cause I built a fully loaded lariat minus the ultimate lariat package and when I was doing a 360 view of the truck I can see a hole for the key on the tail gate. When I went to a ford dealership last week the guy showed me a truck with the remote locking tailgate and release and I'm pretty sure that key hole wasn't there but that truck had the ultimate lariat package.
I have a Lariat, not Ultimate, with Power Door Locks and Keyless Entry. The tailgate locks and unlocks with the doors. Don't go by what you see in the 360 view on the build and price site, it's just a representative image. What you're thinking is a keyhole may very well be the tailgate camera.
All trucks with power windows / locks come with the auto-locking tailgate. Any truck *without* push-button start will have a real power lock actuator in the tailgate which you can physically "hear" as it locks and unlocks. They may have a 'backup' key hole to manually lock or unlock?
Trucks with push-button start don't have a tailgate handle or a power lock actuator. Gate is lowered by an electric release and then a soft tailgate damper. You can hit a soft button under the fake 'handle' to open the gate from the rear, hit a button in the cab, or do it from the remote.
There is no lock whatsoever. Why you 'lock' the truck, electric power to the soft button under the handle is removed, rendering it inoperable...unless the remote is within 3 feet of the handle, in which case it will open.
Its kind of a neat feature, but personally, the tailgate drops way too slow.
Remember...there is also one more trick. You can lower the gate with the external keypad without the key fob or opening the truck. Do your 5 digit unlock code and then hit the 5 button. Lowers the gate. Just something cool to show the kids...lol

I'll be purchasing a '17 Lariat F250. Yes it will have power door locks and from the above replies I'm guessing the tailgate locks with the doors.
So I have also heard of tailgates being stolen. A few second operation.
Is this because the did NOT lock their doors(tailgate)?
Or is there some other way one can steal the tailgate, even though the tailgate lock IS locked?
Is therean aftermarket lock to be added so a thief cannot do this?
