Had my tailgate come open on me one day when i had a trailer and it crunched the corner. Have seen that several were getting them replaced when this happened. Any of you had luck on getting one? Also My truck came with no bed-liner and i had Line-X applied. Will ford pay to have it done in line-x or will they want a factory spray in done? I'd hope they would pay to have it sprayed to match and keep my warranty with line-x. What say you guys
Are these failures due to the tailgate remote LOCK or the tailgate remote RELEASE, I ask because I will be getting an XL/STX with remote lock and am concerned that it may occur to mine...thank you.
Okay, thanks for the information, ford390gashog. [I can picture the '390' with stripes slanted on the front fender of my dad's 1967 Country Sedan!, that's what I see when you post.]

I really doubt that Ford will pay to have the "Line -X" re-applied to your tailgate because it`s not OEM. That cost will be on you if they replace your tailgate.
Also, if your tailgate is working fine when or if you take it in and if your VIN is not part of the recall for this problem, more than likely the dealer will just say that you caused this damage and you`ll have to come out of pocket for a repair or replacement.
I uploaded a video a few weeks ago of my tailgate openly randomly during the recent rains. I was fortunate enough to get it on video and have it happen at Ford. They ended up replacing a wiring harness that runs from the front to the back that was allowing water to get in causing it to malfunction. My tailgate was damaged as well as a result of this happening while pulling my TT. They ended up replacing the entire tailgate along with my aftermarket spray in bedliner. It was ready yesterday but we found a couple runs so they took it back to repaint. The way I look at it is if they are replacing a $4000.00 gate with little to no hassle. The cost of a name brand liner is minimal. Kudos to Ford for stepping up and doing the right thing.

Wording without proof is useless as well as no video.

What do you mean "no video"? Richard uploaded a link to a video just like he said he did. It's in his post history. I'm confused. Are you trying to say that communicating this issue to Ford is useless because it's intermittent and difficult to prove unless there's proof like a video of it happening? Or are you calling Richard's post useless because he didn't give proof (which makes no sense to me, because he did)?

I was talking about the said cost and Ford paying for the Line X. If said video was posted, I apologize be cause if I had seen it, then I would not have mentioned it.
