Cost for dealer trans re flash?
I've never taken a car to the dealer. Only ever been there to buy parts.
Anyways I see people talk about the 1-2 jerky shifting and realized I have it.
It's a '12 SCSB with the 6.2 with 82k on it.
My question is: Do they normally charge for a software update that is essentially an upgrade to something that shouldn't need it?
Now I'm fine with the way the truck shifts but I do notice it. I'm not looking to spend money that I could spend on a tuner that would possibly flash the trans anyways. I wouldn't say I'm cheap but I like to spend my money wisely.
Experiences with the dealer regarding software upgrades?

It's my understanding part of the 5 star tuning is transmission tuning. Is that correct?

Im no tuning expert, and I'm going out on a limb here and putting myself out there to look like a fool, but....
I think the update is for the software. It's kinda like when we get these updates for our iPhones, you do the update, and when your phone comes back up, all your settings are still the same. I think you guys can get effective software updates while running your tunes. I would definitely put the factory tune back in before going to the dealer for the update. That way when you load your tune back up you get the updated factory tune stored just incase I'm wrong. Surely there is someone in this section that can prove me right, or wrong.

The tune only changes certain things. However if you return to stock and then take the truck to the dealer where they do a reflash of the pcm with updated software there is a good chance your custom tune won't load when you go to put it back in. Often times when the dealer does a reflash on the PCM to an updated version the strategy code is different. You then have to contact 5 Star with the new strategy code and they can make the needed changes. Just keep in mind there are all kinds of modules on these trucks separate from the pcm.
