TSB

Well, ordered mine today under warranty. I just walked up to the service desk and gave them the TSB and told them to order it for my 2016. After getting past the "WHERE DID YOU GET THIS TSB FROM" they still checked to make sure my truck qualified and ordered it. I am in Canada so about $700 and no delivery date

I have chased this issue with new tires trying 3 different brands. All of which were balanced a few times before moving on to another brand. Discount Tire was great in working with me.

I have found that I can adjust tire pressure and the setting on my Rancho 9000 shocks to lessen the feel, but it does still occur.

Towing our 5th wheel doesn't seem to either increase or lessen the feel.

My only complaint about the back order is that the part is due in to the dealer two weeks after we depart for an extended RV venture so it will be late Oct or early Nov before I can get it installed.
I don't think this is the vibration I have. I only get bounce from the rear on a rough road unloaded when the truck will step sideways but that's a standard thing for an unloaded heavy spring truck.

Pics and video of how it works...the device actually floats (moves in 3 dimensions as well as rotational). See video as well.

Mounting bolts from the inside of frame well. Looks like they may have reused these bolts. not sure what exactly was here prior. Didn't take a picture prior.

I've had the 42 mph SuperDuty Hop since day one. Last year I took it to the dealer where the tech and I drove the truck and he logged the issues in the truck's history. He told me that there was not a fix for it yet at that time but they would contact me if one arose. I think I will let them take a crack at it based on all this information.
Thanks for letting us know that it pretty well solves the problem and that video is very telling on its operation!

I had the 42 mph hop and the unloaded hopping after crossing bumps on flat or slightly down hill roads. I chalked it up to tight suspension and long wheel base. Both my 11 f250 lb crew 4x4 and my 16 f350 srw 4x2 road exactly the same in the rear.

This tsb and weird interial mass thing makes the truck ride like a different truck. Or like my last two trucks loaded with a few hundred pounds of stuff at the back of the bed.

The hopping and extended bouncing is completely gone. So much so I got out after the 60 mile drive today to make sure that the dealer didn't add new shocks, springs or something. Nope, only change was tsb. Well worth a shot for other 172in wb trucks. I would be willing to pay for it if had been out of warranty.

I can't guarantee that it will work on every truck, but it sure helped mine. Akins Ford Winder Georgia had the part in stock or may have arrived next day. Largest Ford dealer in Georgia. Fantastic customer support and great diesel techs.

I don't have the long bed but I have the Crew cab... I have experienced this at various speed depending my tire size. With 33's I got it between 40-45 ....now with 35s (295/65/20) i get this around 50mph.

TSB

I think its FANASTIC everyone is getting value out of this TSB.
Since I only have a 2016, I am always checking TSB's for my truck.
I will keep posting anything of interest.

Just got back in town from a 2,300 mile excursion pulling our 5th wheel. I thought about this mystery piece very often during this trip.

We got home yesterday around noon and I called the dealer around 3 to see if by any chance this part which was on backorder may have arrived. To my surprise it had been received at the dealers parts dept.

I made arrangements to have it installed this morning. Went and picked the truck up this afternoon and what a difference the ride is now. Don't get me wrong, it still rides like a 1 ton truck, but the hop/shimmy/bounce effect is gone.

I am not sure if covered under the extended warranty or not. That will need to be determined by the dealer or the warranty clerk contacting Ford.

This is the warranty section of the TSB

WARRANTY STATUS:
Eligible Under Provisions Of New Vehicle Limited Warranty Coverage

Warranty/ESP coverage limits/policies/prior approvals are not altered by a TSB. Warranty/ESP coverage limits are
determined by the identified causal part and verified using the OASIS part coverage tool.

Mine was installed a week ago. Going on trip from Alabama to Michigan this Thursday pulling a 5th wheel @9500lb. Will see how it does.

Does this apply to short bed crew cabs as well? I am also a little unclear of the symptoms. On a long 500 mile each way tow pulling 6K lbs boat I would get a vibration at 70mph+. I am leaning more towards out of balance tires. However, without the trailer I do not get the vibration.

The TSB specifically calls for 8' box...
TSB 16-0087 MAY 25 2016

2011 to 2016, with 8ft box and factory hitch may exhibit a vibration or
hopping at 42-70 MPH OR 68-112KM.
