Is there a trick to removing interior windshield trim?

I can't figure out how to remove the piece interior trim that runs along the top length of the windshield. This is a base model with no headliner if that makes any difference.

I trier to remove it in my parts truck just save and could not, once it bent I gave up.

Because of that I don't think I need to remove the one in the project truck and will paint it in place.

Only reason I was trying to remove it is I need to remove the A pillar trim and it's tucked underneath it.

IIRC I was able to pull the ends down enough to get them out.
Not that any of it was in too good of shape after it went thru this.

and why I was not too worried on bending the top molding.

Mine was help on by some stiff metal clips that are attached to the trim piece. I carefully and firmly pulled down on about 1/3 of it at a time, slowly moving across the windshield, and the clips popped out. My truck has a headliner and I don't know if they are different. Mine also has one along the top of the rear window. I had to remove them to replace the weatherstripping on the doors.

Maybe this is what I have been doing wrong. I was trying to pull underneath it from the side opposite the glass. I will try this instead.

Resurrecting an oldie, but did anyone have a definitive answer? I have an 1982 with the windshield out and I'm still having a hell of a time getting this trim off. No headliner.

I can tell you it is a pain, them clips really hold it on there.
I was lucky my parts truck was a roll over and I could see how it was installed so I could remove it from my project.
Now this was a wile ago and don't remember how I did it but I will try and find the moldings and get a picture as that may help.

Edit for pictures:

This is from the roll over truck but think got bent trying to remove it which is sad because the project truck one has holes drilled in it.
I think I might be able to get it straight but I also have a over head shelf from the roll over truck that I think will hide the molding.
As can be seen it has 4 clips and they can be a pain. I cant remember how I got it off but want to say I used 2 flat blade screw drivers to pry on either side.
