Hey Mike....I Should be in the same position soon, but I have the internal parts marked so maybe that will help some. The two actuating rods are right (the short one) and left (the long one). The ends with the double bends go into the latches. On the ends that engage the handle....the right side rod points upward and the left, side rod points downward when their positioned correctly. Once everything is in place, it should be easy to insert the rods into the handle (two holes) and pin them in before screwing the release into the tailgate....hope that gets you there!!
Ps.....nice looking gate, nice color choice.

Thanks for the tip, I dissembled the handle mechanism for painting , I think thats where my issue is. I also didn't realize 1 rod is shorter than the other. Ill investigate again tomorrow.

Get some white paint on those letters while you have it up there.

Dennis Carpenter lists a tool box door seal for '73-'79. I've wondered if it could be made to work.

Ya, mine are the whole kit and kaboodle but do include the door seal in with all the other goodies. The pre-package part number allowed me to find more. The best part was a brand new lock and key, since my lock was busted and no key at all.
