1997 7.3 OBS died while driving. Won't start.

I have a 1997 F350 7.3 powerstroke with 360k. I have had issued in the past with it idling rough, but was able to move the wiring harness that goes to wires under valves and get it to quit. The other day I was driving and it just shut off. Like switching the key off. Got out, moved the wires, and it cranked back up. But once I arrived it would not start. Spins over strong and tried to hit but wouldn't run.

So I had it towed home and now can get it to turn over but won't hit at all. Tach is moving when it is cranked, checked the UVCH on both sides and they weren't burnt or apart. Oil is full, both tanks are full. Replaced the ICP sensor. Smoke comes out of tailpipe when I turn it over. Will hit on starting fluid but won't remain running. New fuel filter, fuel bowl is full. Not sure where else to turn. Any help would be great. Thanks.

Also checked the fuel pressure while cranking and had 25 psi.

360K on original injectors and o-rings, just checking? More service history required to help.

Injectors have been replaced, only thing that hasn't been replaced to my knowledge is the glow plugs. But it's been 100 degrees here every day for a month now. Been serviced regularly and haven't had any problems out of it until this.

100F is still COLD compared to the temps needed to start these engines. If you're getting smoke, and tach movement, you're getting injection. Test the glow plug system. Try plugging in the block heater for a couple hours.

X2 on this. Plus if the compression is a little weak, it would compound the problem. Make sure the GP system is in top shape.

Mine has weak compression and obviously high mileage and would start with out the glow plug relay connected, on a 50° day it would start right up? 100 should start easy.

So a little update on what I've been trying. tried the block heater for a couple hours, nothing. Ordered a new IDM and still the same thing after replacing it. But had 2 new codes pop up after replacing the IDM. First was P1283 injector high side open. Second was p1298 IDM failure.

Would this point to perhaps a shorted wire along the injector harness not allowing the IDM to get signal to injectors?

If i plug the old IDM back in, both codes go away.

Any way of finding out if either IDM works in another truck?

Check the terminals on the connector of the replacement IDM.

Have you tested the glow plug system?

Whatever device you're using to obtain codes, can it also do diagnostic tests? If so, try an injector buzz test, with each IDM.
