80-86 Bullnose f150

Hi Guys
I'm in the market for this model f100/f150 Flareside. Can you guy let me know what I should be looking out for and steering clear of eg Rust areas and Problems they may have that I can keep an eye for. I would proffer a carbie model . And what would be the ratio from Flareside to the normal styleside body
Cheers Darin

At least in the US... if you want to stay away from any sort of computer-controlled engine (be it carburetor or EFI) look at the 1983 and earlier models.

They're about like any other truck, as far as things to inspect before a purchase. I can't think of any problems that are specific to flaresides.

Here's my thoughts:

- Don't buy an old truck unless you have a place to work on it.
- Don't buy an old truck unless YOU can work on it. It's too expensive to have someone else do the work.
- Understand that an old truck has old rubber which will be dried, hardened, cracked, or broken completely with age. This goes for inside the transmission as well as outside (like door seals, vacuum hoses, etc). It will likely need lots of rubber replaced.

For rust areas check under plastic bedliners, floor mats and carpets, and look at the floors and cab corners from under the truck. Body mounts are also fairly important, most other rust will be obvious

cab corners seem to be the most common I see on these trucks. Same goes for the core support mounts themselves.

I had an 81 F100 flareside, the first area of rust was the front of the rear spring hangers rotted out , I bolted a new set on, other than that were the rear cab corners that started to rust out near the bottoms. Good luck, love those flaresides.

Like he said, and be prepared to replace every component with over 30Kmi on it... You’ll be back here …..
