Wheel bearings... do they sound like bad ball joints when bad?

Bought the EX from my sister 2 years ago, I know that she's had the ball joints replaced several times and have read on here how some people have only gotten 20K miles out of a set.
Anyway, I have the same clunk and I spent one Saturday changing them out ( as well as new brakes and rotors ) I still have the same cluck sound. I've just read a thread on the hubs rattling and its related to the needle bearings wearing out. I'll lock it in 4WD to see if the clunk goes away but I don't think that's going to help.
Would bad / incorrectly adjusted wheel bearings make this same sound? When doing the ball joints, I saw one set must have been rebuilt since the locknut looked brand new and the other side showed its been there a while.
Thanks FTE for any advice you have to offer.
Dan

Sway bar bushings, sway bar end links, body mount bushings or leaf spring bushings can all do what you are describing.

My truck had the wrong bushings on the sway bar itself. Motorcraft end links aren't to expensive through Rock-auto either.

To the OP:

No, wheel bearing(s) do not sound anything like ball joints or tie rod ends.

My needle bearings gave a growl when they went out.

My needle bearings crunched, replaced the one side and back on the road. Less than $30 in parts.

Sway bar bushings. No matter how they look, when they get worn, they cause clunking.

Thanks for the input guys... I don't think its the sway bar because I get a clunk midway through a turn and the sway bar is kind of locked in with the pressure. But it takes 5 minutes to unhook then go for a slow drive and see. I replaced the front springs and the sound hasn't changed.
I'll check the body mounts. that is certainly a possibility.

Just rock the truck side to side, any stab bar related that is worn will make noise.
