What's the best resource for a bell house conversion kit? I want to mate a 1986 6.9L diesel (the one made by International for Ford) to a 1964 Spicer 5 sp model 5-7-56-B tranny, if possible.
I'm not a 100% sure, but the 6.9L (at least the ones used in Ford light duty pickup applications) uses the same bellhousing bolt pattern as a 460 (7.5L) gas engine (or any of the Ford's "385" Series engines) if I recall correctly.
no they do not. diesel is diesel, gas is gas. and they do not interchange.
the spicer 5756B is a mid size truck trans.
i would imagine you will need a bell housing for a mid size international or ford truck that used the 6.9 engine

The link to the thread above was the best response I could find to the point of your quote above.
But to answer pgr380's question, he should source the bellhousing of a 6.9 Navistar from one that came out of a Navistar truck, not a Ford. I believe Navistar's version uses a four inch adapter plate which utilizes an SAE circular shaped bolt pattern, suited for mating them to medium duty truck transmissions such as the Spicer 5756B referenced above.
i don't care what anyone claims, the gas and diesel bell housings are different and will not bolt to the block without modifying it by drilling into places that structurally weaken the housing.
