Temp.questions
Hey everybody, haven't posted here in awhile but I'm back.I've got a 1995 F150 with the 300 and 5 speed trans.264*** miles.I made a trip from Orlando to Jacksonville and back, pretty much non-stop and decided to check my temps.when I got back with my infrared gun.My coolant temp.seamed to be around 170,oil (well temp.of oil pan)was about 206 and transmission was 165.I was just curious if these temps are good or not,I really don't know the acceptable range besides for coolant.Thank you in advance.

Those seem pretty normal except for the coolant. It should be around 190-195 as the thermostats for these trucks should be a 193 or 195 as that's what the computer is looking for as a normal operating temp. Maybe try to measure the temp at the rad once the thermostat opens in order to get the most recently hot coolant from the engine?
Many people are still changing their thermostats in the summer to a cooler rating but with our trucks it is not advisable. It will negatively affect gas mileage.

Yeah my gas mileage is pretty low, about 13 city and best I've seen on the highway is 16.Though I do drive fairly...spirited...so that could account for the low gas mileage a bit. This is my first 300,I've always been a V8 nut 4.6 and 5.0 were my favorites. This engine might not be as quick, but the low end power is amazing 2000 RPM and I've got all the power I could ever need.
