There are rebuild kits available from several places; good idea to clean the vanes while in there.

As for interchangeability, I can't say for sure.

I know at XDP they sell stock Garretts for 2003, 2004-2005, and 2005.5-2007.

All I've ever heard is that the 03-04 units whistled louder.

Pretty generous, sharing your turbo with him. Make sure you get the replacement o ring and gasket kit when reinstalling.

Is he going to use a bearing out of your's to fix his?

difference between 03/04 and the 05/07 is the pedestal mount. The early turbo's have a slightly bigger discharge volume and they have fewer turbo fins, why they whistle more than a late turbo. As long as the pedestal is the same, it will work.

get the bearing kit, think they call it a 360* bearing.

Thanks for the info. He is gonna drop mine in to see if it will work for now till he can get the bucks for a new one. He just did headgaskets and BP diesel remote oil cooler and after just a couple hundred miles his turbo took a dump. Mine has a little play in it but worked when I took it off. Thanks again.

randy, what is the 360 degree bearing? I am having a Ford tech clean and install a unison ring on my 2004 van. He never mentioned this and said the turbos don't have real bearings like wheel bearings.
