47 Canadian One ton
I have a 47 Ford One ton with no firewall plate. However my engine # is 6J5429. My serial number is 210H47-78496. I do know that 210 is Canadian Ford One ton. So the 412 must be the Merc equivalent.
My understanding is that original registration for the vehicle would have been by engine number. Can folks confirm this? Is it possible that trucks would have been registered over the years both by serial number and by engine number? I'm going to do search at the Ministry of Transport (Ontario DMV), but not sure to try looking up engine number, serial number, or both. Anyone know how truck would have originally been titled?

VanPeltSales.com is possibly the best source of info on Ford serial numbers for our trucks. Look at the serial number and model number sections. Ford used consecutive serial numbers through 1948. The H appears to indicate that your truck came with a 6-cylinder engine. The serial number was stamped in the transmission and on the frame rails. The engine number was not the serial number. The firewall plate was a patent number plate. Post your query on FordBarn.com if no one with more than my little amount of knowledge follows up. Please post some pictures of your truck.
