Yes it is. If the splines in the converter are stripped it won't turn the input shaft, so the trans doesn't work.

hey mark, i think i know what ur going to say, with my no forward or reverse trans, should i have a friend and business owner rebuild my trans with a new tc if that is what i find as a failure or should i just patch it with a new converter, ( i do have and have had a hard 1-2 shift since i have owned it) with that said could the hard 1/2 shift be part of the potential failure i am looking for. i do release i should start a new thread, but i have used this thread for for all my checks so far.

If the only failure is the torque converter, then that's all you need to replace. If the torque converter is fine and the trans broke, then a new converter isn't going to fix it. Once a broken trans is out I prefer to rebuild or replace it, not try to patch it. But that's just my opinion.

The hard 1-2 could be a clue. A repetitive hard shift can break hard parts, resulting in no go.

here is an update on my trans, got it pulled out the splines in the tc looked fine, ordered and installed a rebulit trans for jasper powertrain, got it installed yesterday, shifts fine and it no longer has a harsh **** in to 2nd gear, it in fact 2nd gear can at times have a weird delayed shift, what do you think about that mark i am hoping that its just a matter of the trans breaking in,when i say delayed, u can feel it disconnect form first and then shift to 2nd, like it was a manual trans it doesn't necessarily slip

The trans is fully broken in. Once you get fluid in it and run it it's broken in.

By the way the transmission is designed it CANNOT disconnect from first before shifting to second. Second just adds on. If it could disconnect the engine RPM would shoot up before second engaged. So I really don't understand what's happening with your 1-2 shift.
