95 f150 5.0 spark plug replacement

I'm going to be ordering motocraft plugs, wires, distributor cap, rotor and coil today from rockauto, and I'm wondering if there's any issues I might run into when changing the plugs on my 95 302? And what plugs should I get; copper or platinum? Should I let the engine warm up before attempting to remove the spark plugs?

95 f150 5.0 spark plug replacement

Just curious, how often should the coil be replaced? I believe the coil on the truck is original with 314,000 kilometers. Should I replace anything else with this kind of mileage on the engine or just wait for a cel? I'm trying to keep this truck running as good as possible for as long as possible

I would warm the engine up for a minute or two. Not to full operating temp but just a little warm to the touch and spray the spark plugs with a penetrating fluid. And then let it sit for a few minutes. Just go with standard copper core plugs these trucks don't need the fancy platinum plugs. And I replaced the coil on my 95 right around 200,000 miles which I believe is close to the km you are approaching. However, it want because it quit working I simply broke it changing the coil wire that was stuck on it.

Get the regular motorcraft copper. These engines don't really like fancy plugs.

No real problems changing them - some of them are a PITA to get to. I found it easier to reach the ones closest to the firewall from underneath the truck.

I just replaced my coil after 196k miles - don't even think it really needed it but was doing a similar tune up and figured what the hell.

Things I would worry about on these trucks - vacuum lines and ground connection. Those seem to cause a lot of problems that can be fixed quickly and easily.

Thanks guys. So should I replace the coil just to know it's gonna be good for a while or not bother with the coil until I need to?

I would get a new coil if your getting everything you need. Be sure and get a Motorcraft replacement.

I've seen new coils fail in months, not the 22 years my Motorcraft coil has lasted.

Keep the old one, don't throw it away, mark the date and mileage on it. Do the same for the new coil.

Might as well replace it if you are replacing everything else. Keep the old one as a working spare.

Standard motor products is the only brand other than motorcraft I would trust for my truck. It's a good budget replacement.

I had no big issues doing my plugs and wires, just be careful of the hard vacuum lines- i bumped some and they broke, so I ended up replacing them.

As far as plugs I have big hands so it was just difficult on some plugs getting them aligned with the holes perfect due to the size of my fingers.

Lol big hands, I know the feeling. I'm guessing the ones closest to the firewall were the worst?

Actually no, the worst was on the passenger side up front, I have kept my air pump and the metal tube for it was right in my way had trouble getting a ratchet on the plugs, had to use two short extensions to get them

Ordered the parts yesterday, didn't get everything I was wanting to order but I did order what it needed most ( besides new sheet metal) and I only just decided to order a haynes manual. I'm guessing wobble and universal joint extensions will make the job easier?
