F250 7.5 460

I'm buying a 96 F250 with the 460 and I was just wondering which type of gas I need to put in it, whether 87 grade is sufficient or I need to put a higher grade in it, thanks guys!

My 1989 model likes at least 89 octane. It has good flowing exhaust and the air intake system has been opened up as well as a slight timing bump. All stock will probably be fine on 87

I've always used 87 octane in my 97 460. Never really seen the need to use any higher.

Regular 87 octane works great in mine.

Have run the high octane stuff before, no noticeable difference.

That's because it DOES run better on 87. If you run higher octane fuel in an engine whose compression ratio is not high enough to require it's use, you will lose low - mid range hp.

Put 93 in your low compression engine and you're wasting your money.

I have to run 89 minimum in mine. Otherwise it'll ping like a **** in the mountains. Have to run stock 10 degrees also, it just isn't happy with any more.
