16' XLT, 17' XLT, or 17' Raptor?

I'm looking at F-150s now.. I've been a huge SD advocate so far, and I love mine, love the looks, but I never tow or haul anything.. I Had a boat, but sold it, and went through with getting the F-250 anyway. It didn't get to me at first, but after a year, it's starting to feel a little on the stiff side for a dedicated grocery getter.. Or maybe I just want something new.. I could be completely wrong, and keep my current truck too.

I have one more chance to swap for something new this year, or next year, but then I'll be stuck with whatever I get.

A 17' raptor could be a dream come true. I just don't know. The XLTs finish around $50k, and I heard the new raptors are supposed to start around $50k. If all the raptor must-haves stack up to $70k, I think that'll be out of my league anyway.. unless most of it's best options will be included? I'm not sure if I should wait to see, or not.

Plus, there's no where to go baja off-roading in my area, I don't like the paddle shifters, I'm kind of a v8 fan, I'd rather have the 6.5 bed, instead of the 5.5. I'm not sure how I feel about the new AWD-on-demand it's sporting either. It's abilities would be wasted on me(prob the case with most who get it, like the other two 14' raptors I see in my neighborhood.) It would be a driveway trophy for me to stare at and wax. BUT, When there's a more powerful engine coming out like that, with a reinforced frame, and a killer suspension... I just know it's going to psychologically KILL me not to have it. Especially since I feel like I missed out on my first chance to get one. It looks like the best choice for that post-apocalypse we're all prepping for, lol.

On the other hand, I was pleasantly surprised at how great a 16' XLT looks when I was doing a build and price on the ford site today. Way, WAY more down to earth for me..

There's no chance they'd put this HO raptor engine in the other F-150s, in 2017? They wouldn't do that in the 1st release year, right? 2018,19 might be to late for me.

Any other info/details/news out there?

They took away the SVT badge for 2017, need an admin to edit this forums title. SVT is supposed to merge with the euro RS division, last I heard. I don't know what they'll call it now.

The F1's are due for a power bump in the EB. I figure it won't quite be the raptor motor but close. I guess in the 2017 model. I'm a big SD guy too, but after trying the EB last year and now running my first 6.2, I sure miss that twin turbo power. Not to mention more power but way better mpgs and smoother ride. I often think about going F1 EB again......

And now I heard they're shooting for a new Bronco by 2020... I had an 89'. I wonder how that is going to stack up against the new F-150, same front end maybe? Eco-Bronco? hahaa. And since that will be an off-roader too, will it have a raptor type trim level? I hope they still put the tire on the back gate. Dear Ford, please stop coming out with cooler stuff every year, so I can feel satisfied for a little while..lol

If you get a truck and keep it till you die I suggest you get exactly what you want. it's important that you consider the Lariat trim. I got the 4x4 because I like to be adventurous sometimes. The new Raptor comes with the eco boost engine not a V8. It's amazing how much trucks cost as the time has gone by. Look for a 15 because there are still some at dealers. they are willing to move those out. Not suer if there is a reason to get a 16 over a 15 now a 17 may be way different.

I shouldn't have said decades. 15 years as my only vehicle is possible though. I'm only 35, lol. I know the new rap is a 3.5-eco, was just saying how I like v8s. but in the 17' raptor's case, it will have more HP than the current f-150's 5.0 v8.

If I got a regular 16' f-150, I'd prob get the 5.0. Less tq, and less tq curve, but 20 more HP than the current 3.5-eco.(at full throttle) 5.0=385hp, 3.5eco=365hp. I also noticed you can only get the 16' f-150's snowplow prep with the 5.0. that's interesting..

I'm even thinking about getting another 16' f-250,just like the 15' I have now, and just bumping it up to an XLT/4x4. Mine is totally bare bones, but I really like the SD platform. Don't know if I'd give it up for a new raptor or not. like apples to oranges, I know. And as for the new 17' super-duty that's coming out, it won't feel as different as an f-150, because it will have that same, new cab as the f-150 anyway.

You've answered your own question, hold out for the Raptor, if that will be the last for awhile, get what you really want!

FWIW, the Raptors really hold their value... I'm currently in the market for a used '12-'14 6.2 and man, are they pricey compared to similar year XLT, FX4, Lariat, etc. I am sure the new Raptor will hold value just as well, if not better.

......and not just a LITTLE more value - a considerable amount of value is retained in a well cared for Raptor.
I don't have my spreadsheet here, but I studied used prices of 2014 Raptors as well as F150 Platinum models very well equipped. The Raptor in literally every case retained 20% or greater value than the Platinum...
It helped me make up my mind...
