2wd vs 4wd rear end.

I know the 2wd use a 2.5" leaf spring vs. 4wd using a 3". Are the spring perches the same on the rear ends? Can I use my 2wd rear end with 3" springs no problem?

Converting my 94 f150 from 2wd to 4wd. I know they have the same 8.8 rear end, but didn't know if the spring perches/pad were different since they use different leaf springs.

I have heard that F-150 2WD uses a different width spring than an F-150 4WD. That could be what the OP is talking about. But sorry, I don't know if the spring perches are different between the two (there wouldn't be any other difference between 2WD and 4WD F-150 rear axles)

I'm guessing the center pin would be the same location no matter, worse case is you would have 1/4 of spring hanging over your perch/pad on each side. Could just weld a little metal to it so it fits snug between the ubolts if they are different. Just bought a 4x4 transmission and I had him throw in the leaf springs and a few other things as part of the deal.

As far as I know its a straight swap. I did a 4x Bronco 8.8 into a 2x f150 YEARS ago and had no problems that I recall.

I assume the gearing of the donor is different than your truck? Otherwise why would you swap the rear end?

AFAIK the spring perches are the same. I swapped a Bronco rear-end into my F150 (to change the gearing) and it worked fine. My F150 was also converted from 2wd and so has the 2.5" springs in the rear.

I'm keeping the 2wd rear end, I don't have a 4wd rear end. I will be re gearing it,... Again, along with the Dana 44 straight axle I have. I had planed on running the 2wd springs, but had these 4wd springs thrown in on the deal with the transmission I bought. Reason I'm switching them is to get more lift, they sit 2" higher, that's less block I will have to run. All of it will be temporary until I can buy a full set of lift springs and do it right, but I will at least have the 3" spring hangers in place.
