I want to say that over the years , I have bought and sold parts to people on this site . I have always been happy with every deal , I have gotten what I want and sold what I had both at fair prices , I have never been led astray .I have also been involved in transactions , with old farm tractors, Dodge trucks , and motorcycles , and never been burned . A year ago I had a brain fart and bought two 1974 Ford mavericks . I had a 70 back in 1971 and thought it would be fun to restore one , I soon realized it would be a lot of time and $ . So everything is for sale . I went to a Maverick site and advertised . I got calls and emails with offers and requests , I gave very cheap prices just to get rid of them , Out of about 20 contacts only 2 have come through , even one where a guy made an offer , I said yes and never heard from him again . The one that really PI@#^& me off was the guy that wants the complete front disk brake setup , and rear end . So after setting a price of $250 , I remove the upper and lower control arms , springs , master cylinder and valve , rear end with springs and cables , he asked for the grill and sport mirrors , $25 more , He is to come today . After a bunch of Emails about address , time , and more he Emails me about 8pm to tell me he is not coming, and to sell the parts if I can . I will junk all the parts and cars . Dealing with you guys have spoiled me . Thanks for being a great bunch . sorry for the rant .

Sorry to hear that. Had an experience or two like yours, just not to that scale. Some time and effort involved, all for not. Yes it is frustrating.

There is one thing you are missing Doc. Most all the guys here are old geezers and thats why we like these trucks. We grew up in a different time when your word was bond and you had respect and politeness. I recently agreed to by a truck bed shook hands and the next day i seen one half the price in better shape. I bought both when asked why by someone i said I gave my word to the first guy. My honor isn't for sale for a discount. Semper Fi

Sorry Doc. I had a few of those myself. VERY frustrating.

I have got to the point I don't even pull a vehicle out of my yard or parts out of my shed UNTIL they show up. Sad

Except for this site and Ford Barn. Nothing but good experiences.

Pweng1 - you got it right. Respect and politeness are just not understood these days. Growing up in a time where a hand shake and your word meant something is why we get it. It seems not everyone gets that now. Sad.

Have learned my lesson from past experiences .I do not remove , take apart , get ready & etc. until the person shows up . Have realized as one gets older time becomes more valuable . Have had very good luck w/ all the heater parts ( buying & selling ) over the yrs. Just one person was months late sending but all arrived .

LOL, it isn't "Dr." Smith, it's Dave R. Smith. He isn't a doctor and never played one on TV, either.

That experience would sour me too, Dave, but don't send those to the scrapyard just yet. Are any of the Mavericks stick shift? The clutch and clutch linkage will sell fast on eBay and none of the BS that is CL. Same for the disc setups. I would think the C4's would sell quickly on CL. Just tough it out on CL and wait til they show up with cash before getting excited.

Two of my sons had Mavericks, I always wanted one too, but working on theirs convinced me that when Ford wanted to make a cheap car, they pulled out all the stops.

LOL I am not a geezer yet, but I stand behind my word. Just bought a car today (another drive train donor for another project) and the guy was amazed that I showed up when I said I would and had the cash with me.
There are lot of flakes out there, that stinks you took the car apart, but I learned that deal long ago. I get paid before I spin a wrench, no exceptions, especially when taking the parts off commits you to parting out the vehicle.
I dont blame you for being fed up with it all.

Some people make it their hobby to screw over decent people every chance they get, no matter how petty.

I've sold parts and cars on CL. Usually everything goes smoothly. In my CL and eBay ads I post lots of pictures and the most detailed descriptions I can. I don't like being deceived and I don't try to deceive others. I have a couple of CL encounters where the buyer came out and tried to hammer me on price or acted like I wasn't totally honest with my description, when that happens I always refer to the wording in the ad and there isn't much they can say. Usually I'll have 2-3 replies and give the replies the chance to buy in the order I recieved their emails. If the complain I tell them I'm going with the next guy, no problem if they don't want it.

Not a Dr??? WELL HE IS NOW!

When my truck gets sick, I'm asking DR Smith for his advice.

It's all in the "interpretation". Kind of like you know who and the Constitution.
