Rear brake grabbing ?

Gathering theories here. Preliminary info: 1994 F150 4x4. Truck sat for a WHILE prior to my saving it from the crusher. I've had the drums off and there's no fluid leakage, dry as a bone. Shoes are 2/3 worn and everything looks as it would after sitting.

Trucks sits for a week and then the first time I apply the brakes, like at the end of the driveway, the right rear grabs and slides. Once on the road if I ride the brakes for a couple seconds then there's no more issue until it sits again. It's worse in rainy weather.

Will old organic linings absorb enough moisture to cause the grab? Never had one do this unless leaking fluid. Only other explanation I could see is the cylinder sticking slightly. What do you guys think??

Both of my 1993 Lightnings did the same thing. Pulled drums on both, nothing amiss. I learned to ride the brake a bit when going down the drive. Problem solved.

I had a ranger that did this. I believe someone rode around with the e-brake barely on and crystallized the shoes. New shoes fixed the problem.

A sticking ebrake cable will cause this.

Yeah, I've learned that too. It just bugs me that I have to.

I'm going to gather up a new hardware kit and shoes and see if that cures it. Most likely will, just curious as to the why it does it.

I just replaced both e-brake cables before going for a safety inspection. That also allowed my my checking things out that might cause the dragging brake.

I have several little projects to undertake once it warms up a bit.
