Since the 7.3 and transmission weigh twice as much as your 302, if not more, this is not a good swap.

An oil burner for this truck would be a 4BT or other smaller motor.

More power can be had with minimal change via a 351W swap. Bolts in, and you may even be able to bolt up the exhaust without changes. Maybe.

You say you want to turn it into a weekend warrior. What does that mean to you? A toy for off-roading? And if so, what kind of off-roading? Or a tow / haul truck for Home Depot runs and pulling a big travel trailer on vacation? What you want to do with it will have a huge impact on what you ought to do to it.

But I agree, a 6bt is pretty heavy for a half ton. An IDI diesel isn't out of the question. It's about the same weight as a 460 (which also isn't out of the question).

Also your rear axle is probably an 8.8" (which might not be a great choice for a torque monster engine). But there was no 8.8" front. That's a Dana 44 TTB.

you would need a 1 ton drivetrain to handle the power of a diesel.

as mentioned above, how is the truck going to be used and whats been done to it currently.
