Hub centric dually wheels

Can you use 85 F350 dually wheels on a 1978 Dana 60 or 70? The 85 rear wheels are hub centric on a sterling axle. If so what does it take to make them work? Thanks Bruce

I did use the hub centric lug nuts on the back, I chamfered the OEM lug nuts to center the front wheel.. I imagine any local machine shop could turn the rings for you for around 60 bucks..

Thanks, That is what I figured. My next door neighbor is manager of one of the largest machine shops in town. Got that part covered. do you know if an 85 Dana 60 front dually hub will interchange with a 78 Dana 60 front hub? bearings show the same is the spindle? might be able to exchange mine for his, he is using 60 on a rock crawler. I am wanting a dually for my 78. thanks again Bruce

Looking to resurrect a 78 extended cab F250 4x4 I picked up for parts several years ago. I bought it for the front Dana 60. Couple of months later I finally checked the truck out and it had a 400 with aluminum intake 4 barrel and headers. Bed pretty gone. Wanting to put a dump bed on it. Have the scissor lift and looking to put duals on it. Just kind of rounding up parts now. This one will turn into my workhorse and let the other 78 start staying in the stable and become a stallion when I get it put back together.. Actually have two others before this one to build. A 79 Jeep CJ-5 Silver Anniversary Edition and a 78 F250 LWB Flairside 4x4 to put back together. The Flairside I bought new in 1978, Been to H and back. Was hopping to have it back together by now but life got in the way. I already have the frame and bumpers, roll bar powder coated. 460 motor freshened up along with tranny rebuilt. was working on axles when life got in the way. It has been quite a few years since I pulled it apart, hope I can remember how to put it back together. Bruce

I studied into the spindle/Hub swap and I recall there being a reason they wouldn't swap.. I will see if I can dig something up again

Thanks! I researched some on pirate 4x4 and it looks like it would swap just swapping hubs. The bearings are the same. I would appreciate any other info you could dig up. They said the knuckles had different size tie rod holes between the 78 and 85 knuckles. From what I could find the spindles were the same. Thanks Bruce

Have you had any luck? Everything I see looks to be the same spindle and possibly an easy swap.. I wouldn't know because Iv never converted one to a dually but a picture thread would be much appreciated in the boards.

Yes, 78-97 Ford Dana 60 SRW and DRW front hubs will swap. The only thing you have to watch out for is the rotor diameter, 78-95 had a 12.5" rotor and 95.5-97 has a 13" rotor.

I should also add the 78/9's had 1/2" lug nut studs, all other years used 9/16" studs.

Thanks for all the information. The difference in stud size is no biggie. Now I just have to get my other projects out of the way. Thanks again, Bruce
